Ghibli Raceway and BRP Rotax celebrate the 10th Rotax MAX Challenge Grand Finals, Sharm El Sheikh, on December 9th to 12th.

For one whole week, Sharm El Sheikh has been the point of interest for everybody involved in the Rotax MAX Challenge Grand Finals (RMCGF). 2009 marks the 10th anniversary of the Rotax MAX Grand Finals, an event that continues to grow in size and stature every year since the first RMCGF in 2000 in Puerto Rico.Since that first race, the Grand Finals has been held in Malaysia, South Africa, Spain, Portugal, UAE, Italy and here in Egypt. After 2004, it is the second time that Ghibli Raceway hosts the Grand Finals on its exceptional desert track in Sharm El Sheikh, this time with 216 drivers from over 60 countries.

“Egypt was chosen to host the 10th Grand Finals because of the perfect climate, the tourist facilities and the outstanding track facility and professional organizing capabilities of Ghibli Raceway”, states Robert Gumpenberger, BRP-RMC organizer. Manfred Weissgaerber, Managing Director, Motorsports Division of Kart Care and former organizer of RMC adds, “I personally think this was the best out of all 10 Grand Finals because of the exceptional Ghibli Raceway Sharm facility and organization. Ghibli Raceway hosted over 1,700 people, and there is no other place in the world that can host such an event”.

With new additions to the Grand Finals every year, this year one of the new bits was a video track monitoring system used by race control to observe the competitors for errant driving. The seven-camera system has several neat features including the ability to capture a video clip with a time stamp so it correlates to any call coming in from a corner station. Not only that, but the Ghibli Raceway facility has also been uplifted with freshly painted track lines, upgraded facilities and landscaping.

And to boost the excitement, Ghibli Raceway hosted a series of ultra thrilling night events. From the funky Pacha nightclub, to the cool Little Buddha Bar, to the exotic Pataya Beach Bar at Laguna Vista and the legendary Hard Rock Café, there is always a reason to party and always a place to do it!  But without doubt the main attraction of the entire week was the lavish ‘Bedouin’ themed Closing Ceremony party that took place at the ‘Echo Temple’ right in the heart of the Sinai desert, at the foot of the mountains.  From a dozen belly dancers, to numerous Shisha corners, and several scrumptious buffets, the extravagant night was the perfect finale to the electrifying World Finals.
